What is Divorce Jurisdiction?

The divorce is only valid if it is filed and an order obtained in a court that has the authority to grant the requested relief. Statutes often give the plaintiff the right to sue where he or she has resided for a specified period of time. The other spouse must always be served and provided notice of the proceedings.
