What is Nonsupport?

The failure of a spouse or parent to fully comply with a Support Order; this has become a criminal misdemeanor in many states and the knowing violator can be incarcerated at least for a period of several months. In other jurisdictions, the same outcome may be achieved through a civil contempt proceeding.
