The Louisiana Bar Exam is a 3-day exam including nine separate essay exams. Day 1: Civil Code I, II, III. Day 2: Louisiana Code of Civil Procedure, Torts, Business Entities. Day 3: Constitutional Law, Procedure & Evidence, Federal Jurisdiction & Procedure. The Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) is not used.
Code Essay Subjects: Civil Code I (Persons, Community Property, Property and Acquisitive Prescription), Civil Code II (Successions, Donations and Trusts), Civil Code III (Liberative Prescription, Obligations, Contracts, Security Rights, Sales, Leases and other Civil Code Book III topics), Louisiana Code of Civil Procedure, Torts. Non-Code Essay Subjects: Business Entities and Negotiable Instruments, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Procedure and Evidence, Federal Jurisdiction and Procedure.

A passing score is 70% (seven separate essay exams, including four Code essay exams, must be passed).Each of the essays (9) are worth 100 points. A total score of 650 out of 900 must be achieved to pass the exam. Code subjects carry twice the weight of Non-Code subjects. Applicants earning a total weighted score of 650 (out of a possible 900) will pass the exam.
Results are released in mid-April for the February exam and in early to mid-October for the July exam.
Not Applicable. Louisiana does not use the Multistate Bar Exam MBE.
Louisiana does not provide admission on motion; examination is required of all applicants.
