The New York Bar Exam is a 2-day exam. On Day 1 you’ll have two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) questions in the morning and six 30-minute Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) questions in the afternoon. Day 2 is the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam (100 questions in the morning and 100 in the afternoon).

A scaled score of 85 on the MPRE within three years before or after passing the New York Bar Exam is required for admission.

The MEE and MPT scores are scaled to the MBE, where the MBE is weighted 50%, the MEE 30% and the MPT 20%. The scores are then combined to determine if the passing score of 266 has been achieved.
Results are released in early May for the February exam and in late November for the July exam.
New York accepts MBE scores from other jurisdictions only if from a concurrent exam.
In order to be eligible for admission without taking the New York Bar Exam, the applicant must be a member of a reciprocating state bar, have engaged in the active practice of law for 5 of the 7 years immediately preceding the application, and be a graduate of an ABA accredited law school.
