The North Carolina Bar Exam is a 2-day exam. On Day 1 you’ll have six 30-minute Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) questions in the morning and two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) questions in the afternoon. Day 2 is the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam (100 questions in the morning and 100 in the afternoon).

Business Associations (including Agency, Corporations, and Partnerships), Civil Procedure, Equity, Family Law, Legal Ethics, Secured Transactions including The Uniform Commercial Code, Taxation, Trusts & Wills (Decedents’ Estates), Contracts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Constitutional Law, Evidence, Real Property, and Torts.
What’s the minimum score for MPRE?
A scaled score of 80 on the MPRE within 24 months before or 12 months after sitting for the bar exam is required for admission. See our MPRE Study Guide.

How is the exam scored?
MBE is weighted 50%, the essays (MEE) are weighted 30%, and the the MPT 20%. The scores are combined to determine if a passing score of 270 was achieved.
When are the results released?
Results are released in late March for the February exam and in late August for the July exam.
Can I transfer my MBE scores from another jurisdiction?
North Carolina does not accept MBE scores from other jurisdictions.
What about reciprocity across states?
In order to be eligible for admission without taking the North Carolina Bar Exam, the applicant must be a member of a reciprocating state bar, have engaged in the active practice of law for 4 of the 6 years immediately preceding the application and have passed the MPRE.
