The Ohio Bar Exam is a 2 ½-day exam. Beginning with the July 2020 bar exam, Ohio adopted the UBE. Day 1 consists of six Ohio drafted essay questions and two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) questions. Day 2 is the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam. Day 3 consists of an additional six Ohio essay questions.

What subjects will you be tested on?

Business Associations (Agency, Corporations, Partnerships), Civil Procedure, Commercial Transactions (Commercial Paper & Secured Transactions), Legal Ethics, Personal Property, Wills, Contracts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Constitutional Law, Evidence, Real Property, and Torts.

What’s the minimum score for MPRE?

A scaled score of 85 on the MPRE is required for admission.

How is the exam scored?

MBE is weighted 33%, the MPT weighted 13.3% and the OEE weighted 53.3%. A total scaled score 405 is required to pass.

When are the results released?

Results are released in early May for the February exam and in early November for the July exam.

Can I transfer my MBE scores from another jurisdiction?

Ohio does not accept MBE scores from other jurisdictions.

What about reciprocity across states?

In order to be eligible for admission without taking the Ohio Bar Exam, the applicant must: meet general admission requirements, be a graduate of an ABA accredited law school, have passed a bar exam and been admitted in another jurisdiction, have engaged in the active practice of law on a full time basis for 5 of the 10 years immediately preceding the application, and intend to actively practice in Ohio. The applicant may not have previously failed the Ohio Bar Exam.
