The Wisconsin Bar Exam is a 2-day exam. Day 1 may include parts of the Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) and the Multistate Performance Test (MPT). It may also include questions prepared by the Wisconsin Board of Bar Examiners. Day 2 is the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam.

What subjects will you be tested on?

Business Organizations (Corporations, Partnerships, Associations and Sole Proprietorships), Civil Procedure (Pleading and Practice, and Jurisdiction of Courts), Commercial Law (includes Sales, Secured Transactions, and Negotiable Instruments), Family Law (Domestic Relations), Professional Responsibility, Taxation (Federal), Trusts & Estates, Contracts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Constitutional Law, Evidence, Real Property, and Torts.

What’s the minimum score for MPRE?

Not applicable; the MPRE is not required for admission.

Need to sign up for MPRE? Learn about registration, testing policies, and more on our MPRE Registration Guide.

How is the exam scored?

MBE (weighted 50%), essay, and MPT scores are scaled and combined to determine if a passing score of 258 was achieved. The written component of the exam may include performance on the MPT, the MEE, and/or locally developed essay questions. A total scaled score of 258 is required to pass.

When are the results released?

Results are released approximately 5 weeks after the bar exam.

Can I transfer my MBE scores from another jurisdiction?

Wisconsin accepts scaled MBE scores of 135 or higher from other jurisdictions if the exam was taken within 37 months of the present exam and part of a successful exam.

What about reciprocity across states?

In order to be eligible for admission without taking the Wisconsin Bar Exam, the applicant must be a member of a reciprocating state bar and satisfy the originating jurisdiction’s requirements for admission on motion.

What are the application deadlines and fees?

Please visit the Wisconsin Board of Bar Examiners website for details on application deadlines and fees, as well as for more information on other topics.
