Constitutional law is the body of law that deals with constitutional rights granted under the state and federal constitutions. Constitutional law often deals with determining the scope of rights under the state and federal constitutions, as well as interpretation of specific language set out in a constitution. State supreme courts have the final word on interpretations of certain state constitutional provisions, and the United States Supreme Courts hand down the highest order of rulings for federal constitutional interpretation. Lower-level courts at both the state and federal level will issue rulings before a case is taken up by a state or the federal supreme courts for rulings.
