The Louisiana Bar Exam is a 3-day exam which consists of two parts: a nine-part written examination (Part I) and the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (Part II). Part I is separated into nine essay exams. Day 1: Civil Code I, II, III. Day 2: Louisiana Code of Civil Procedure, Torts, Business Entities. Day 3: Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Procedure & Evidence, Federal Jurisdiction & Procedure. The Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) is not used.

What subjects will you be tested on?

Code subjects are Code I, Code II, Code III, La. Code of Civil Procedure and Torts. The four Non-Code subjects are Business Entities and Negotiable Instruments, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law and Procedure, and Federal Jurisdiction and Procedure.

What’s the minimum score for MPRE?

A score of at least 80 on the MPRE is required. A passing MPRE score is valid for a period of 5 years from the date of the examination. Need to sign up for MPRE? Learn about registration, testing policies, and more on our MPRE Registration Guide.

How is the exam scored?

The multi-part written examination consists of nine separate examinations. Examinations 1 -- 5 are “Code” examinations; examinations 6 -- 9 are “Non-Code” examinations. Each subject is worth 100 raw points. Code subjects carry twice the weight of Non-Code subjects. Applicants who earn a total weighted score of at least 650 out of a possible 900 will pass.

When are the results released?

Typically released 9-10 weeks after the exam.

Can I transfer my MBE scores from another jurisdiction?

Not Applicable. Louisiana does not use the Multistate Bar Exam.

What about reciprocity across states?

Louisiana does not provide for admission on motion; examination is required of all applicants.
